Under NEP 2020, the Foundational Stage covers ages 3–8 years, comprising three years of preschool followed by Classes I and II. At DBSI, Balvatika 1, 2 and 3 provide a joyful, nurturing and developmentally appropriate beginning to a child's educational journey through play, exploration, creativity and experiential learning.

• Balvatika 1 | Ages 3–4 — The first step into structured learning, focusing on a child's sense of security, communication, social interaction, motor development, creativity and confidence through stories, rhymes, music, movement, sensory activities and play.

• Balvatika 2 | Ages 4–5 — Building on the early years through greater independence, communication and exploration. Children develop early literacy and numeracy skills through storytelling, games, puzzles, art, music, movement and hands-on activities.

• Balvatika 3 | Ages 5–6 — The preparatory year before Class I, strengthening school-readiness skills such as listening, speaking, early literacy, number sense, logical thinking, self-help skills and social development through joyful, play-based and experiential learning.

• Our Approach — Learning across Balvatika is play-based, activity-based and child-centred, supporting children's physical, cognitive, language, socio-emotional and creative development. We integrate stories, games, art, music, movement, exploration, and the child's home language into meaningful learning experiences, and we understand progress through continuous observation rather than conventional, examination-oriented learning.
